Like a Pro: The Wheel of Consent for Professionals (BIPOC Cohort))

This practice-based training guides you into a personal somatic experience of The Wheel, then teaches you how to integrate it into your practice to make all your sessions safe, effective, and satisfying.

Once a year, the School of Consent offers this Like A Pro for BIPOC/PGM leaders, changemakers, activists, organizers, psychotherapists, intimacy coaches, s3x educators, bodyworkers, birth workers, somatic practitioners, counselors, tantric practitioners, physicians, s3ksuality educators, and all professionals working with clients around consent, trauma, boundaries, relational wellbeing and/or touch.

This Like a Pro is a unique space that centers our lived experience of systems of oppression and how that shapes our relationships and interactions, including how we hold consent and boundaries. In this caucus space we will ground in the framework of the Wheel of Consent as a tool for our collective liberation, as well as a way to understand both our challenges and joys in relationship with others. This intersectional/identity-informed lens isn't a module added to this training. It is the container.

This 5 day training is the 4th annual BIPOC-centric training offered by the School of Consent, and will be taught by lead faculty Carmen Leilani De Jesus, @consentisapractice, and assisting wlll be Wheel of Consent® Workshop Facilitators-in-Training Jax @touchedbyjax and Tunde J.O. @yetundejo.

This training is offered with a sliding scale, and has an application and interview process. We have a maximum of 20 spaces available. We encourage early registration for planning purposes. See link for more information! https://www.schoolofconsent.org/lap-bipoc

Over five days, you'll develop the core competencies that ethical practice requires and that this moment demands:

CORE SKILLS YOU'LL LEARN

  • The single most important practitioner skill: putting yourself aside to create space for clients to show up authentically
  • What Giving and Receiving really are, and why knowing the difference is crucial for profound client results
  • Assessment - finding out what your client is ready for and what they are not (through somatic experience, not just conversation)
  • Containment—creating strong containers with enough safety for real work
  • How to identify and stay within your professional limits
  • How to put yourself aside as a practitioner and create space for clients to show up authentically
  • Recognize compliance – a coping skill that can masquerade as consent in your clients and yourself
  • How to co-create moment-to-moment presence with clients, meeting them where they're at

THE THREE CORE PRINCIPLES

1. SLOWING DOWN: We take five days to slow down. Countercultural. Revolutionary. Essential. We practice moving at the speed of genuine choice.

2. NOTICING: Develop your capacity to notice yourself, the other, what happens in relationship, and the space you're in. Expand your capacity to hold multiple points of attention - an essential skill for working with clients experiencing trauma and for navigating your own responses to collective crisis.

3. ACCESSING CHOICE: From the foundation of slowing down and noticing, gain skills to access genuine choice—for yourself and your clients.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Originally developed for touch practitioners, Like A Pro has expanded to include all professionals working one-to-one with clients: psychotherapists, sex therapists, sexuality educators, counselors, body workers, physical therapists, healers, coaches (life, intimacy, relationship), teachers, workshop leaders, surrogate partners, cuddle therapists, tantric practitioners, massage therapists, sex workers, and somatic practitioners.

If you work with people, you need this course.

This training attracts professionals committed to integrity, equity, inclusivity, harm reduction, and finding authentic joy - especially those who:

  • Work with clients navigating intimacy, sexuality, or relationships in an increasingly volatile political climate
  • Need practical tools for addressing consent when clients are experiencing violations of autonomy
  • Want to clarify professional boundaries and prevent ethical breaches
  • Recognize that supporting clients requires addressing the impact of authoritarian systems and power dynamics on bodily sovereignty

WHAT MAKES LIKE A PRO DIFFERENT?

While Wheel of Consent workshops focus on learning embodied practices, Like A Pro goes further: you learn the practices, then put on your practitioner hat and workshop how to use them with your clients.

This training cultivates skills to hold clients AND hold yourself - to be a resource without burning out, to maintain boundaries without rigidity, to stay present without losing yourself.

BONUS: You meet like-minded professionals & expand your network!
