Bondage comes in many forms. Rope, cuffs, tape, ribbon, leather restraints, commercial bondage systems, and improvised restraints all offer different experiences, advantages, and limitations. Yet regardless of the tool, the same questions remain:
What experience are you trying to create? What does the body need? What risks are involved? And what restraint method best supports your goals?
This class explores bondage as a broad and versatile practice. Rather than focusing on a single material or technique, we'll examine how different restraint options function, how they interact with the body, and how to select the right tool for different situations.
Topics include:
- The purpose of restraint and the experiences it can create
- Comparing common bondage tools and materials
- Comfort, circulation, mobility, and body mechanics
- Short-term versus long-term restraint
- Public play, private play, classes, parties, and dungeon settings
- Accessibility and adapting bondage for different bodies
- Practical considerations including cost, portability, setup time, and ease of use
- Risk management and emergency release considerations
Participants will leave with a broader understanding of bondage options and a framework for making informed decisions about restraint. Whether you're new to bondage or looking to expand your toolkit, this class will help you choose methods that support your goals, your partners, and the experiences you want to create.
Presenter Bio:
Insignia (@Insign1A) is a BDSM educator, performer, and body mechanics specialist with over 15 years of experience teaching and exploring rope, bondage, impact, needles, and D/s and power exchange. Her work combines practical kink experience with anatomy, physiology, movement, and body mechanics to help people make informed decisions about their play. She believes every body belongs in BDSM. Rather than asking bodies to conform to techniques, she encourages adapting techniques to the body, helping kinksters build sustainable practices that allow them to keep playing, learning, and growing for years to come. This program is part of the Society of Janus Fundamentals Series.
The Fundamentals Series aims to provide a solid grounding in the most common BDSM techniques practiced in our communities. If you attend all the programs in the series, you’ll come away with a basic understanding of most of the kinds of play you’ll see at kink parties, as well as clear guidance on how to deepen your skill in areas that interest you.
