Bottoming in rope is not a passive role. It is an active, collaborative skill built through self-awareness, communication, consent, and care.
This beginner-friendly class is for anyone wanting to become a more informed, confident, and communicative rope bottom, whether you’re brand new to shibari or already have experience being tied. Together we’ll explore body awareness and personal check-ins, communication and self-advocacy, negotiation and consent, rope-specific safety, adaptation, aftercare, and shared responsibility. We’ll practice learning what our bodies are telling us, finding language for our experiences, and communicating that information with our rope partners. The goal isn’t to teach you how to endure more. It’s to help you know yourself better, communicate clearly, and become an active participant in co-creating your rope experiences.
This class is collaborative and discussion-based, with practical exercises and plenty of room for questions. No prior rope experience required. Tops are also welcome to attend and learn alongside bottoms.
What to bring: Please bring something to take notes with, such as a notebook and pen. You’re also welcome to bring a hank of rope for some of the exercises, but rope is completely optional and not required to participate.
About your instructor: Maeve (she/her) is a bottom instructor, rope bunny, and recovering aerialist with a strong focus on body awareness and consent. Passionate about bottom-centered education and advocating for empowered, informed bottoms in rope spaces.
