What would it be like to feel safe enough to let your guard down—and to become that emotionally safe person for others?
Most of us were never taught what to do when emotions get big—our own or someone else's.
What do you do when your partner is angry? Your child is melting down? A friend is grieving? A coworker is panicking? Someone you love is overwhelmed and you have absolutely no idea what to say?
We give advice. Try to fix it. Tell them everything will be okay. Absorb their emotions ourselves. Get overwhelmed too. Or pull away.
What if, instead, you could become someone others actually feel safer with when emotions are running high?
Catharsis is an experiential workshop in emotional regulation, co-regulation, and human connection. You'll start by learning to work with your own emotional state, then have the option to practice being a grounded, emotionally safe presence with others.
You can learn to become someone others feel emotionally safe with.
These skills can deepen connection across your life—with partners, friends, children, family members, coworkers, clients, and communities.
Catharsis may be for you if you'd like to...
You don't need to be struggling to benefit.
These are fundamental skills for relationships, parenting, friendship, leadership, caregiving—and simply navigating a stressful world.
We'll start with the most important nervous system you have influence over: your own.
Then we'll explore how your presence can affect the experience of the people around you.
You'll practice:
Comfort isn't necessarily the goal. Capacity is.
Being emotionally safe doesn't mean making sure another person never feels uncomfortable. It means developing the capacity to stay grounded, present, and connected when difficult emotions arise—your own or someone else's.
Sometimes co-regulation produces deep relaxation. Sometimes it creates enough safety for grief, fear, vulnerability, or something you've been holding back to emerge. Sometimes it allows you to venture outside your usual comfort zone while remaining grounded.
We're not trying to make you feel a certain way.
We're creating conditions in which you can safely experience more of what's already there—and learn to help others do the same.
We start with you.
Before you're invited to practice anything with another person, you'll learn ways to notice and work with your own emotional state.
From there, you'll have the option to explore guided co-regulation practices with others at whatever level of participation feels right for you.
This isn't a two-hour lecture. You'll learn primarily through experience and practice.
The workshop may include:
Everything is guided step-by-step.
The word can sound dramatic.
Catharsis doesn't have to be.
Sometimes it's tears. Sometimes it's laughter. Sometimes it's finally saying something out loud. Sometimes it's simply realizing how much tension you've been carrying—and allowing yourself to put it down.
There is no particular emotional experience you're supposed to have.
Catharsis is about creating space for authentic emotional experience. Whatever genuinely arises is perfect.
Humans don't experience emotions entirely in isolation. Our brains and bodies respond to the people around us, and research on supportive social connection and touch has found relationships with stress, emotional state, and physiological regulation.
It's part of why being around a grounded person can sometimes help us settle—and why someone else's stress can sometimes seem contagious.
We'll touch briefly on what's happening in the nervous system, but this isn't a neuroscience class.
You don't need to understand the biology to learn the skill.
The emphasis is on experiencing co-regulation for yourself and learning how to bring it into everyday life.
YOUR FACILITATOR
Nicole Cruz has been working in personal development and coaching since 2013, helping people build healthier relationships with themselves and others.
Her background spans holistic health, education, and behavior change — and over time, her work has moved increasingly into the body: how we regulate, how we connect, and what gets in the way of both.
She is a Certified Trauma-Informed Coach and trained in emotional co-regulation, with additional study in attachment, relationship skills, and facilitating experiential practice containers. She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching and a certification in Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching.
Nicole's approach is grounded, practical, and person-centered. She doesn't offer scripts or formulas — she helps people develop the awareness and capacity to actually be present with others.
This workshop is an extension of that work.
