About the Event

Close out Women's History Month 2024 as the San Francisco Bay Times and The Academy SF come together for another great party. including a first look at the documentary-in-progress The Day the Curtains Came Down about the last years of lesbian trailblazer Phyllis Lyon and her queer caregiving team.

Filmmaker and Emmy winner Deborah Svoboda will be in the house, along with friends and supporters of the late great Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon who are helping to strengthen and evolve the Lyon-Martin legacy. Among them will be host Kate Kendell of The California Endowment and former Executive Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights. Activist Mandy Carter, who worked closely with Del and Phyllis and is an inductee of the International Federation of Black Prides' Black LGBT Hall of Fame, will be traveling across the country for this event.

Sarah Bush, the acclaimed Artistic Director of the Sarah Bush Dance Project, will be among those performing a one-night-only dance to Del and Phyllis' all-time favorite song. Also in the house will be emcee Donna Sachet, DJ Rockaway presented by Olivia Travel, the mighty Dykes on Bikes, and many special guests for a night benefiting The Day the Curtains Came Down and dedicated to Del and Phyllis—and featuring many more of their favorites, from the San Francisco Giants to food and drinks and much more!
