Dykes on Hikes

From the organizers of Dyke Night, we bring you Dyke Hikes! These local events were created to build up the female queer community in the Grass Valley/Nevada City and beyond. We are working to create fun and local events that help people connect with each other. This is a hike for queer women or those that identify as female.

On May 5th, we will be hiking on the Bullards Bar Trail in the Tahoe National Forest. We will have about a 2-3 hour total hike time and approximately 5 miles (the whole trail is 13.5 miles) with a stop at the turn around spot for lunch, swimming and relaxing, then we will head back the way we came. This is a beautiful trail that follows the edge of the Bullards Bar Reservoir, one of the warmest places to swim in the area. The abundant rich minerals in the reservoir gives the water its beautiful color.

The giant sword ferns will be starting their spring unraveling and the trail is mostly in the shade under trees. It is not handicapped accessible and everyone will be hiking at their own risk. It is an established winding, fairly level trail with mostly flat terrain. Elevation gain is very minimal.

Well-behaved pets are welcome on or off leash, but they are your responsibility.

What to bring: water, lunch, hat, swim wear/towel, comfortable shoes- regular running shoes are fine for this trail, sunscreen, bug protection or longer sleeves, ticks can be present outdoors this time of year, so long pants are recommended.

The best time for warmer weather hiking is in the morning. We will meet at the trailhead at 8:30am. There are bathrooms at the trailhead and we will meet there.

Details and directions will come soon!
