Free Your Voice while Drumming outdoors in a park with a view of the Bay!
This 10-class series runs Wednesdays June 24-August 26 from 630-8pm. OK to join late up to week 3.
Amaze yourself and free your singer & drummer. Get expressive on your drum (djembe, doumbek, cajon, and conga recommended but pots, pans, and buckets welcome if you don't have access to a drum), rock out, and sing! You will learn rhythms from Guinea, Mali, Egypt, Morocco, Brazil, Jamaica, and funk/hip hop from the US. After this class, you will be able to sing and sound while you drum. $425 early bird, $450 regular for the 10 classe.s
In 10 fun weeks, we will cover:
--fundamental drum strokes--bass, tone, slap, pop, and touch
--good drumming technique
--healthy vocal technique (breath support, releasing throat tension, using your mask for projection, resonance)
--world rhythms
--funk, rock, blues & hip hop rhythms & world songs
--vocal harmony
--trance rhythms (opening and closing rhythms) from North Africa
--improvisation
--drum circles, grooving, jamming, unleashing your voice as you drum and dance with lotsa play! We're going to cut loose together and get ecstatic!
This class is a total stress release and a ton of fun while also creating new neural pathways. You will feel yourself growing smarter as you increase your joy and pleasure. Yay!

Phoenix Song is a queer, nonbinary Korean American adoptee performer, writer, teacher, and healer featured in SF Magazine's Best of the Bay. They specialize in world fusion and sacred ritual through Korean shamanic music, Indian classical, neo-soul, and wordless chanting. For the last twenty years, Phoenix has performed many solo and collaborative shows at Queer and Asian Conference, Empowering Women of Color Festival, Reimagine Festival at SF Jazz, SF Pride Main Stage, Asian Heritage Festival main stage, the Queer Arts Festival, and SF International Arts Festival.
