Ground Ties for Torsions & Transitions with Kodai-Artist from the LB Shibari Dojo

Join Ember Society for a workshop with Kodai-Artist, instructing from the LB Shibari Dojo, with Crisy and PaddlesnPothos rope bottoming.

This class will focus on simple ties and more complex forms and use of body positioning to express and explore your partner.

What to bring:

• 4 Hanks of rope.

• A blanket or towel to tie on.

• Bring your partner!

We are covering the use of the single and double column tie to use not only as a starting point for the torsion and transitions, but as a way to begin the connection to your partner as we explore the possibilities and shared goals created from this type of Shibari. Those ties will then add a series of wraps and frictions to hold your partner and secure rope placement and proper tension. Please negotiate with your partner before bringing them to class as this is an intimate art form and it will be important to have consent before tying and touching your partner.

This three hour class offers two hours of instruction and an hour of extra time to play and try concepts learned in class with your partner.

Pre-requisites: all participants must have completed our beginner series or have equivalent tying experience; please check our Beginner curriculum page for more information. Riggers must be able to tie a single column, double column, half hitch, munter hitch and know how to extend rope

Paddles is passionate about the endless creativity and connection that rope offers, and the unique ways it fosters trust and communication. Her objectives in rope are centered around both interpersonal connection and semenawa, or torturous rope. She first started in 2014, and has spent the last several years active in her local shibari and kinbaku community where she serves as a teaching assistant at the Long Beach Shibari Dojo, supporting others in their rope journeys and growth. In addition, she is the primary rope bottom there for the 200 and 300-level classes. Paddles has recently expanded her practice to include the study of rigging and self-suspension.
