Intermediate: Chapter 6: Arms-front Chest Harness

Ready to build on your shibari foundations? In this intermediate series class, you will learn a simple and comfortable arms-in-front harness while continuing to develop your rope skills that can be used in many future ties. We’ll cover rope handling, tension, communication, and basic safety as we work step-by-step through the harness. We will be building on the fundamentals of our beginner series. We recommend having familiarity with single column ties, half-hitch and munter hitch.

This class is designed for those who are newer to shibari or looking to build confidence with the basics. In this class you’ll learn:

• Basic rope handling techniques

• How to tie an arms-in-front harness

• Communication and consent while tying • Fundamental safety and body awareness

• Tips for creating clean, comfortable ties

Pre-requisites: all participants must have completed our beginner series or have equivalent tying experience; please check our Beginner curriculum page for more information. Riggers must be able to tie a yuki single column, half hitch (takedome), munter hitch (nodome) and know how to extend rope - if you need a refresher on these skills, please consider attending one of our beginner classes first.

What to bring/wear: 2-3 hanks of rope, either 8m or 10m based on tying pair’s preference and comfortable clothing

Do I need a partner for this class? Partners are recommended; the pattern taught in this class cannot be self-tied. If you come solo, you are welcome to sit back and observe during the practical part of class.

Please arrive on time, as late entry may not be permitted due to the structured nature of the material.
