Introduction to Movement Rope with Anoxia and Kasm

Join Anoxia and Kasm (Chicago) for a three-hour, hands-on class that distills the core principles of movement-informed tying—drawing inspiration from contact improv, social dance, and theater—to help rope practitioners explore rope as a shared, responsive experience.

We’ll focus on attunement, connection, and movement fluency, introducing foundational techniques for incorporating improvised and intentional motion into your tying.

Through guided drills, partnered exercises, and simple floorwork, you’ll learn how to use your body to listen, communicate, and shape your tying in a way that prioritizes presence and play. This class centers on “yes-and” tying, where curiosity leads and the rope follows.

Prerequisites (for both people in a pair):

• Familiarity with each other as tying partners
• An arms-out chest harness that works for you both
• Knowledge of common rope risks and risk mitigation strategies
• Physical ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, and have basic standing balance

Equipment:

• 4-6 piece rope kit
• Cutting tool

About the presenters:

Kasm and Anoxia have been partners in life and in rope since 2018; tying, teaching, and performing together. They have presented in classes and intensives across the US, as well as at large kink conferences like Ropecraft, Kinkfest, Tethered Together, and Desert Bound.

Anoxia (they/them) is a Chicago-based rope educator and performer with over a decade of dedicated practice in primarily Japanese-style rope bondage. They've trained extensively with instructors across North America, Europe, and Japan, drawing on a range of traditions to shape their own teaching approach. As an educator, Anoxia teaches from both sides, covering suspension concepts and anatomy alongside the language of emotional skills and collaborative scene-making. In play, their rope tends toward intense, creative, and emotionally charged scenes, with strong currents of sadomasochism. Anoxia now works in rope full-time, touring to teach workshops, offering private instruction, and working at Shibari Study. They're also active in event organizing, helping run conferences and tours in Chicago and at venues across the US and Canada.

Kasm (they/them) is a queer, kinky switch and self-tier who started teaching in 2018. In the classroom they prioritize personalized instruction and building an environment that is safe to flail in. In their personal practice they enjoy exploring intimacies and modes of play through the lens of rope bondage, with a focus on movement driven scenes and sadomasochistic play.
