Interested in Suspensions?
You have seen them on the internet.
You understand they are more difficult, maybe even dangerous.
But, what do you really know about them?
This is not a class to get you excited about suspensions.
It is a guided instruction on how to think about suspensions with discernment and judgment.
By the end of this class, you will have a clearer understanding of what happens during a suspension, the risks physically and otherwise, where those risks can come from, and how to keep you from guessing your way forward.
A 3-hour foundational class for anyone curious about rope suspension
This class introduces the core concepts every rope practitioner should understand before attempting suspension work, as a Top or bottom. Students will learn how ATUSD thinks about suspension risk, consent, negotiation, communication, gravity, load, hardpoints, gear, uplines, spotters, emergency planning, and the judgment required before a human body leaves the ground.
This class is appropriate for:
People who are curious about suspension but not sure they want to do it
Rope bottoms who want to understand what they are consenting to
Tops/riggers who want a clearer understanding of suspension risk
Couples or partners considering future suspension training
Community members who want to become more informed observers, spotters, or partners
This class does not certify anyone to suspend. It is designed to give students better judgment, better questions, and a clearer understanding of what makes suspension different from floor rope.
