A long time in the making, we are thrilled to finally announce a weekend with Pauline Massimo (Brazil/Spain)!

Join us Friday evening for Restricted Movements, a class about finding your movement quality and being creative with space and connection.

Restricted Movements is a Shibari + Movement study developed by Pauline Massimo with their experience from rope practices intertwined with different dance and movement expressions to flow in a very personal way, finding the joy and delight from connecting not only by ropes but also by touch, suggestion and sync on an intimate session.

This class is mostly based on hands-on exercises that the participants must try to really experience and feel the concept presented by Pauline. However, no one is required to have a dance background and the class is welcoming to all tying/tied rope levels that meet pre-requisites.* Participants can apply the techniques taught by Pauline at their own rope and dance level, which can be easily adapted and personalised by the participants taste.

It’s recommended that participants join this class with an open mind both about rope and movement approach, willing to test and try the exercises, eager to communicate and connect both with their rope partner and within the group dynamic, interested in improvisation and making small mistakes.

Workshop focused on pairs, switching is allowed for alternating exercises.

No experience in dance needed. Short warm up for movement based practice will be provided in class, participants are welcomed to do a deeper and personal warm-up before class.

PRE-REQUISITES: single and double column ties and basic friction/tension handling. Those tying should be able to proficiently tie column ties on different parts of the body besides ankles and wrists; this is vital for the development of the class. Basic anatomy and safety assessment to avoid rope related injuries. This workshop is not recommended for people who suffer from vertigo or easily get dizzy. Nevertheless, the exercises can be easily adapted to be less dizzy and nauseous if necessary.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Minimum and maximum amount of ropes depends on the level and desire of exploration.

- You can participate with 1-3 longer rope for Ichinawa/minimalist up to 10+ ropes for maximalists and more comfy suspensions tying.

- Comfy clothing that you will be using for yoga or movement class that allows you to move freely. Covering the skin to avoid possible deep rope burns is recommendable for participants who struggle with this.

- Gear that is suitable for floor and partials (even suspensions) at the participants personal experience level.

About the presenter: Pauline Massimo (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist and educator from Brazil based in Barcelona, Spain.

With more than 11 years of professional experience in the art field from painting, dance, performance art, photography and Shibari to event curator, space holder, educator, community building and art direction in those few past years.

Currently merging their art investigation and curating events through their art studio Espacio Nos in Barcelona, being the founder and director of the space, they combine this facet with other works as a independent artist and educator for other spaces or projects in Spain and internationally.

Pauline's artistic process explores improvisation and experimentation around interdisciplinary arts with a constant research involving the nature, humanity, violence, and radical politics. Their art works are presented in different formats but mainly as live art performance, paintings and photography at different scales. They are also hired for external projects, where they work closely with other artists and production managers to build personalized pieces.

As an educator, Pauline focuses more on a non-dogmatic study and analysis of different art forms, centering the personal process of each individual. Being motivated about the interdisciplinary aspects that some art forms can occur and the impact of intersectionality in the social and political spectrum, they offer workshops, group and private classes, coaching, consulting, personal experience sessions and talks that vary between multiple topics and for all levels of experience or understanding base.
