Safety Supporter Role Play: Incident Response Workshop

Learn how to respond to play-related incidents with confidence, compassion, and good judgment.

This live, interactive online workshop is designed specifically for anyone who goes to play party or kink spaces - and especially beneficial for Safety Supporters, Guardians, event organizers, and community leaders.

This workshop helps you build the practical skills needed to recognize emerging situations, intervene effectively, and contribute to a safer play community without escalating situations unnecessarily. Through guided discussion, breakout rooms, and realistic role-play scenarios, you'll practice responding to incidents that commonly arise in play spaces while learning how to collaborate with other safety team members and organizers.

What You'll Learn

🛡️ Understanding Risk

We'll begin by exploring the unique risks and uncertainties that exist in play party environments. Learn how to recognize developing situations before they become larger problems and identify opportunities for early intervention.

🧠 Frameworks to Respond

Before stepping in, we'll discuss how to stop, assess, plan, and act.

From there, you'll practice using the PACE intervention framework, an escalation model designed to match the response to the situation.

🎭 Interactive Role Play

The majority of class is hands-on. Working in small breakout groups, you'll practice responding to realistic incidents that occur in play party environments. Together we'll discuss different approaches, compare outcomes, and build confidence through experience.

📝 Logging, Learning & Strengthening the System

Responding to an incident doesn't end when the situation is over.

We'll discuss how to document incidents and share information appropriately so communities can efficiently identify patterns, learn from experience, and continually improve their safety systems.

Our goal isn't simply to solve today's incident—it's also to build a stronger, more resilient community that prevents similar incidents in the future.

Recommended Prerequisite

We strongly recommend completing the Safety Supporter Training (Self-Paced Online Course) before attending. That course introduces the Safety Supporter philosophy, culture, terminology, and foundational concepts, allowing this workshop to focus on practical application and scenario-based learning.

Whether you're new to supporting community safety or looking to sharpen your incident response skills, this workshop is designed to help you think critically, communicate effectively, and respond with confidence when it matters most.

Before You Join

🔒 Want to stay anonymous? Open the Google Meet link in an Incognito or Private Browsing window.

Google Meet will normally display the name associated with your Google account. If you'd prefer to join anonymously or use a different display name, you can:

1. Open an Incognito (Chrome/Edge) or Private Browsing (Firefox/Safari) window.
2. Paste the Google Meet link into that window.
3. If prompted, choose Join without signing in (when available), or sign in with an alternate Google account that uses your preferred display name.

This workshop is highly interactive and includes discussions, breakout rooms, and role-play exercises.

We strongly encourage everyone to keep their camera on throughout class, especially during breakout room activities. Being able to see one another helps create a more engaging learning environment and makes role-play exercises significantly more effective.

Participation is always welcome, and we encourage you to contribute in whatever way feels comfortable.

This workshop will be recorded so attendees can review the material afterward.

To help protect participant privacy:

• The recording will display only the instructor's video.

• Participant audio may be heard when asking questions or participating in discussions.
• Breakout room discussions are not intended to be part of the main recording.

Within 24 hours after class, all attendees will receive:
