What happens when the art of rope meets the art of movement?

Both Shibari and Contact Improvisation invite us into a deeper conversation with our bodies.

They teach us to slow down.

To listen.

To feel.

To become more aware of the subtle language that exists beneath words.

In this playful and experiential afternoon, we’ll explore the beautiful intersection between Shibari and Contact Improv, discovering how both practices cultivate presence, trust, connection, and embodied awareness.

Contact Improvisation is a movement practice built around listening, shared weight, momentum, touch, and spontaneous creativity. Rather than memorizing steps, you’ll learn how to respond to what is actually happening in the moment. Through guided exercises and playful exploration, you’ll discover new ways to move, connect, communicate, and trust yourself.

Shibari and rope offer a unique invitation into awareness, containment, trust, and connection. Rope can help us slow down enough to notice what we are feeling, where we are holding tension, and what happens when we allow ourselves to be supported. In a fast paced world, rope often becomes an unexpected doorway into presence.

Together, these practices create opportunities to explore:

* Presence and embodied awareness

* Trust and communication

* Movement and stillness

* Listening through touch

* Nervous system regulation and co-regulation

* Weight sharing and connection

* Creativity and spontaneous expression

* Rope based solo and partnered exercises

* Consent, choice, and attunement

* The surprising places where rope and movement overlap

Throughout the afternoon, we’ll weave together movement, rope, connection exercises, and opportunities for exploration. You’ll learn practical skills from both Contact Improv and Shibari while discovering how these practices can enrich everyday life.

The ability to listen more deeply.

To stay present when things change.

To trust yourself and others more fully.

To communicate without needing so many words.

No previous experience is necessary.

Come solo, with a partner, or with friends. You do not need to be in a romantic relationship to participate. Many exercises can be adapted to your comfort level, and participation is always by choice.
