Suspension Bootcamp: Balancing Bodies in Partials

Please read pre-requisites before purchasing a ticket.

How does a scene change when the body is suspended between flight and foundation? This advanced workshop explores what happens when we commit more body weight to the air while staying intentionally rooted to the floor.

We will practice suspending greater portions of body weight across multiple uplines, using the remaining ground contact as an anchor and pivot to sculpt dynamic postures. Beyond the physical mechanics of multi-point load distribution and structural balance, tying pairs will have space to explore the somatic and emotional impact of sustained partial suspension—navigating surrender, presence, and nonverbal communication in flight.

This workshop is also designed for bottoms ready to dip their toes further into the suspension. This workshop offers a supportive, controlled environment to explore new sensations, deepen body awareness, and practice real-time reflection and communication while suspended. Bottoms will build confidence in recognizing, interpreting, and communicating their experiences as they explore suspension with intention and curiosity.

Prerequisites: Informed consenting bottoms with some suspension experience or participation in intermediate level classes. Intermediate understanding of rope fundamentals, frictions, and patterns, plus prior knowledge of suspension hangers, belays, and lock-offs. Previous bootcamp attendance is not required, but a skills check of hangers and lock-offs is required for class participation. Contact education@embersociety.org to schedule a skills check before class.

What to Bring: Rope, Safety Shears, and Suspension gear (POSH, Climbing Slings, Carabiners, Rings, Swivels) are required. Bottoms, please wear comfortable, snug-fitting clothing that allows freedom of movement.
