Lief and Icky have struggled with tengu ties in the past, especially for suspension. The patterns either provided a lack of support and were deeply uncomfortable, created nerve issues, or were not adaptable to a variety of bodies.
So, after 3 years of tinkering, they are ready to share their answer to the Tengu with you!
The tengu is a classic chest harness shape that brings the arms up and to the side of the body creating an exposing, chest opening shape without having the arms being fully behind that body. This tie is a great alternative for folks that struggle to sustain box ties.
In this class, Lief and Icky will teach you their tengu pattern with adaptations and considerations for different body types. Then, they will give you a chance to play with it in the air or on the floor depending on where you are at in your rope journey!
At the end of class, you’ll have a new suspendable pattern to add to your toolkit! Class will include demonstration and time for hands-on tying.
Prerequisites: This class is for folks at an Intermediate rope level. Understanding and prior experience comfortably tying single column ties, hojo cuffs, and basic knots and frictions is necessary. If you will want to suspend in class: both top and bottom should have prior hands-on suspension experience and multiple successful previous suspensions. Experience tying suspension lines on a ring or single point.
Materials needed: Rope - 8 to 12 hanks of rope suited for suspension. Instructors will be using jute. Suspension equipment including straps, carabiners, ring/rigging plate. All attendees will have access to a single point. Cutting Tool - Make sure you bring a cutting tool for safety.
