The Rope Presents: Maximalist for Partials with Pauline Massimo

Maximalism is a way of tying that Pauline has developed from technical tying engineering to other rope aspects such as connection and flow.

This event will take place at The Rope Collective Studio in Barrio Logan, San Diego. Visit the Contact + Location tab of our website for studio access information.

EVENT DETAILS:

Maximalism is a way of tying that Pauline has developed from technical tying engineering to other rope aspects such as connection and flow. The technique Pauline uses to build different types of harnesses will allow participants to be creative, adaptative and versatile. Many models and self-tying folks love this approach to ropes because it can make the practice much comfy and sustainable on the body. In this sort class, Pauline will share their approach, the technical basis for tying almost any kind of harnesses, demonstrate to participants the application of this maximalist approach to partial suspensions and then participants will have some practising time with Pauline’s guidance.

It’s expected that participants do know how to make partial suspensions already and know how to do safer up lines lockoffs and line managements. Pauline can help news and less experienced participants to improve their skills but it’s not part of the class program to teach from scratch how to do up lines.

Participants who do not feel like doing up lines and partials can keep practising the harnesses technique meanwhile.

Workshop suitable for all levels above total beginners.

You just need enough ropes to execute the ties. It's a very forgiving harness for newer riggers and suitable for all types of bodies. Especially for models who do not tolerate too much pain and pressure on their bodies or just want to feel cosy while tied up.

Some of those ties are suitable for self-tying folks, except the harnesses that include the arms/wrists.

Ropes:

Usually between 1 to 3 extra ropes per harness. The exact amount would depend a lot on how many ropes a rigger uses on their model, as body sizes might vary.

Ex: If a TK needs 2 ropes, you can do a maximalist variation between 3 ropes and 5 ropes. This relies on the tying people choices and amounts of ropes required for each harness. There is a lot of room for improvisation and experimentation.

Pauline Massimo is an artist, teacher, organizer and space holder from Brazil based in Barcelona, Spain. They started a non-stop journey into Shibari back in 2012 and have been working full time as an instructor and performer since. Their approach and interest in investigating rope bondage in general is based on the Japanese root of this practice but always open to experiment and think outside of the box, they look for smoothness and master the skills, work into a collaborative and thoughtful process of how ropes can affect each other's lives.
