What Now? Responding to Consent Injuries

We talk a lot about what consent is, and how to reach good consent in play and with partners. Yet consent injuries happen all the time. What happens after things go wrong, and a consent incident shakes up a person, a couple, or a community?

This class will briefly touch on what consent is and how to secure it - then go beyond and examine how to best react when a consent incident touches us. Let’s consider how we handle it as a stranger, a friend, or an event host. We’ll look at some recommended responses including caring for the harmed, incident reporting, and consequences such as apologies, punishments, and restorative justice.

PRESENTER:

Sir-Panda (he/him) is a polyamorous Dominant living in the Kansas City metro area. He has been a kink educator since he began teaching consent and BDSM basics at Seattle’s Center for Sex Positive Culture (CSPC) in 2011. Today he especially focuses on the mental and relationship aspects of kink, drawing on over 17 years of experience and a passion for research. Sir Panda has taught for Leather Reign, the Kink Center, Pragmatic Kink, Wicked Grounds, and the Venusian Society. He has served in various community roles over the years including event planner, party host, house top, support group facilitator, and Program Lead for KinkFest 2023. Sir Panda is a lifestyle coach, a consent advocate, a Mental Health First Aider, and a member of the Social Psychology Network.
