Sticking around town for Memorial Day Weekend? I got you! Come see my new movie!
----
The Billy DeFrank LGBTQ+ Community Center is proud to present a FREE screening of this campy, uplifting and magical animated film!!
"Maxxie LaWow" was born and produced right here in San Jose and the greater Bay Area — a place with a deep, vibrant history of drag artistry, activism, and fearless self-expression. It feels especially meaningful to bring Maxxie’s story to a space named in honor of Billy DeFrank, a pioneering drag performer and civil rights advocate who dedicated his life to uplifting the community.
There’s something really special about sharing this film in a place built on that same spirit of visibility, resilience, and queer joy.
"Maxxie LaWow: Drag Super-Shero" is an animated musical comedy (91 minutes).
Rated “F” for Fabulous. Suitable for drag fans of ALL ages and persuasions. So it's OK to bring your extended family, friends, neighbors and coworkers!

Meet Simon, a shy small-town barista whose life turns upside-down when a mysterious wig lands in his lap and transforms him into the larger-than-life drag super-shero Maxxie LaWow.
Suddenly armed with sequins and sparkle, Maxxie must protect her quirky hometown when a sinister cosmetics executive, Dyna Bolical, begins kidnapping drag queens to harvest their magical, youth-restoring tears.
The result is a campy musical fantasy filled with humor, color, heart, and unapologetic queer magic. Maxxie LaWow is an award-winning animated film featuring an all-star voice cast including Erika Ishii and Laraine Newman, with cameo appearances by Drag Race icons Jinkx Monsoon, BenDeLaCreme, Heidi N Closet, Rosé, and Monét X Change.
After the film, stick around for a short Q&A with creator and director Anthony Hand.
The film was created in collaboration with other San Francisco Bay Area community and celebrates the same queer ingenuity that makes drag and indie theater in the Bay Area unique.
