Rope Jam 805 - Social & Skillshare (Sun. June 14th)

Join us for a Sunday afternoon of rope and rapport!

After a four year hiatus, we’re back at a new, never-before-used-for-a-rope-social location! Please read the full listing as some things have changed.

RSVP on FetLife here!

Disclaimer: Some of you may remember us as hosts from a different downtown Ventura location in partnership with two local organisations back in 2022. Now we’re doing it under our own banner. We are not affiliated with any other rope socials or venues before or since then— no beef there, we just missed running a rope jam!

This is a vetted rope social and skillshare only open to those 18+. Limited spots available. This is a sober event. Floor ties only— no neck ties or suspension.

Nudity is allowed ONLY in the tieing room and AFTER the opening circle. However, we ask that you please keep genitals covered at all times. Nipples are okay for all genders— free the nipples!

We allow light sensation play— please note this is NOT a dungeon or sex party. Penetration of any kind is not allowed. Your scenes must be focused on rope and your noise volume should be below the volume of the music. Activities such as light bare-handed spanking, pinching, tickling, hair pulling, or little toys (such as clothespins, feathers, blindfolds, claws, bottle caps, or pinwheels) are allowed. If you are unsure if your activity falls into this category, please ask! As always, please be sure to negotiate any activities with your partner before you begin.

Attendees do NOT need a partner to attend.

Our event is open to all experience levels. If you are new to rope, shibari, or the kink community, we welcome you to our corner of the universe. This is a great place to learn: tie with others, self tie, watch others tie, meet rope bottoms/tops/switches, or even learn from our assortment of books available to use during the event.

RSVPing here does not necessarily mean you are vetted. Feel free to RSVP to keep up with event updates. Any messages you may receive from someone who has RSVP'd here, vetted or not, should not replace negotiation. We encourage you to join us for the social (half) hour (2pm-2:30pm) to meet others.

This is a vetted event with a mandatory opening circle.

Everyone must message the hosts to be vetted, even if you’ve attended one of our previous events (please note: we have not hosted a rope jam in four years).

We will give priority to those who are sure they can attend; if you are not sure you can still message us to be vetted for a future event and we will see if we have any open spots left for the current jam. Feel free to RSVP to keep up with event updates.

Please include:

  • Your FetLife name and/or Plura profile
  • If you are able attend, or are unsure about going, or want to be vetted for a future jam
  • The name of any partner(s)/guest(s) you would like to bring (they will need to be vetted as well— see our FAQ section below)
  • If you have attended a previous rope jam, guest(s) of an attendee, have attended local Ventura/SB/SLO events, or friends of neighbor groups in LA
  • Any other relevant information you’d like us to know!

The event will begin with a mandatory opening circle. You must arrive before 2:30pm. No late entry will be allowed without prior approval from the hosts. We’ll go over introductions, rules, conduct guidelines, and other important information. We’ll also provide an overview of our policies on consent, negotiation, and safety. Then we’ll let you loose and let the tying begin!

We’ll have an optional mini lesson/demo for the first 30 minutes after the opening circle. You can choose to listen in or just get to tying.

Schedule

  • 2:00pm - Doors open/social time
  • 2:30pm - MANDATORY OPENING CIRCLE (no entry allowed after without advance permission)
  • 2:45pm - Open tying time and/or optional 30 min. mini lesson/demo
  • 4:45pm - Event officially ends
  • 5:00pm - Everyone must be out. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!

Recommended Items

  • Yoga mats/gym pads (limited supplies available)
  • Rope (loaner rope/shears available if you don't have any!)
  • Safety shears/cutter (required if you bring rope)
  • Refillable water bottle (water dispenser will be available)
  • Any aftercare supplies you may need (blankets, snacks/chocolate, etc)

Location & Cost

  • The venue is located in downtown Ventura in a new never-before-used-for-a-rope-social location. The address will be sent a week-ish prior to the event to vetted attendees.
  • This is an indoor location and the venue is wheelchair and ADA accessible.
  • There is limited parking available in front of the venue. There is plenty of street parking and parking lots around, but they fill fast on weekends so we encourage you to arrive early.

Our space is not free. Running events take organizing time, effort, and labor. Our costs go to renting the venue and other ideas we hope to implement in the future! We have a sliding scale payment of $10-$20+, accept cash/venmo/cashapp, and would greatly appreciate your support to keep our event going at a wonderful location. If cost is an issue, please message one of the hosts.

Inclusivity & Safety

We follow state/local health mandates. If you are experiencing symptoms or feel unwell, please stay home.

Our rope social is for 18+ individuals only and committed to diversity and inclusion. We welcome all levels of experience, gender identities, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, ages, abilities, roles, and kinks. We expect attendees, their behavior, and language to uphold our communities and aim to foster a safe and accountable community open to all.

About the Hosts

@Mintys (He/They) is a rope top/switch with a penchant for bringing a creative, chaotic, and sadistic bend to his ties. He started his rope journey in 2019 and been growing his skill with rope traveling to kink conventions and loves sharing his love of shibari with anyone who will listen.

@subtlety (she/they) is a queer kinkster with an affinity for the curious, kinky, and delicious. She mostly identifies as a rope bottom and also enjoys the meditative nature of self-tying as a shy exhibitionist. She has one foot in NorCal and one foot in SoCal, has been active in the kink community for over a decade, and is a cat person— but will pet your dog!

FAQ

Do I need to bring a partner/rope top/bottom to attend?

  • No, you do not need to bring a partner. We encourage you to join us during the social portion. During opening remarks, we will introduce ourselves and any rope roles we may identify with to break the ice. If you wish to tie or be tied, be sure to respectfully approach others and follow consent and negotiation practices. Accept decline and respect the boundaries of others, regardless of their rope role.

Can I bring partner(s) or guest(s)?

  • Yes, but they will also have to be vetted ahead of time. Please send us a message with who you are bringing or have them reach out and send us a message directly.

Do I have to tie or be tied to attend?

  • No. Each individual’s boundaries are different and should be respected. We welcome anyone interested in rope and have had attendees join us with self-ties, conversation, and respectful observation. This is a skillshare; you are welcome to observe respectfully and/or ask if people would like to share more about their scene.

Do I need experience?

  • Nope, and this is a skillshare and a great place to learn from others! We will also have some instructional books to “check out” during the rope social.

Is photography allowed?

  • Yes, photography of your own scenes is permitted with the consent of anyone and everyone (even partially) in the photo AHEAD OF TIME.
  • Blurring/cropping out others is NOT allowed unless agreed upon by everyone IN ADVANCE; some other options include getting a different angle without other people or waiting until others are out of frame.
  • Prior discussion is required BEFORE about what will be done with them (posting and/or tagging on which platforms, etc).
  • Video or audio recording is not allowed.
  • Do not have your cell photos out other than for photography as described above. Notepads will be available for those who want to take notes. If you need to answer a call or text, please do so outside.

For any other questions (before, during, or after) about this event, please reach out to the hosts.
