The tengu is a wildly versatile upper-body harness - capable of evoking restraint, comfort, exposure, vulnerability, or strength depending on how it's tied. In this class we’ll explore not just how to tie the tengu but why it works, and how to adapt it for different bodies and scene intentions. You’ll leave with several tying options and the context needed to choose the right variation for your partner and play.

This is a hands-on, body-centered harness class that emphasizes intentionality and adaptability over rigid structure. Tying with care? That’s the point.

This class is part of our Containers series, focused on the technical and conceptual underpinnings of harness design. You don’t need to know the pattern to attend - you'll leave with new tools, new options, and a better understanding of what your rope is doing.

You Should Know:

  • Suitable for all levels with basic rope experience - you should know a single-column tie before coming to class
  • Students should be comfortable giving and receiving feedback.

You Should Bring:

  • Your kit of rope
  • A cutting tool
  • Curiosity and a collaborative attitude
