Shibari 301 - Under Tension: Suspendability

If you’re shopping for workshops, you’ve likely seen the phrase “a suspendable harness” listed as a prerequisite. Ever wondered what that really means?

This workshop is about developing your eye, your instincts, and your pattern testing toolkit. Together, we’ll explore how to evaluate whether a harness is ready to take load using a practical framework we use to fuck around and find out… responsibly.

We’ll break down what “suspendable” really means, how to test your tie on the ground, and how to make mid-scene decisions about whether it’s a go, a no-go, or a “maybe… with backup.”

Expect discussion, demonstration, and hands-on experimentation with common harness types.

You’ll learn:

– Functional tests for harness security and load distribution

– When to trust a harness - and when to try something else

– How to build suspension knowledge through controlled experimentation

This class is part of our 301 class track, taught on the second Saturday and third Sunday of the month.

301 classes are designed for tying pairs preparing to explore suspension. You should be confident tying harnesses and managing rope under tension. We’ll focus on building the knowledge, skills, and communication habits that make suspension smoother - and safer - for everyone involved.

You Should Know:

– Students tying should be very comfortable tying harnesses on the body. Not sure if that’s you? Join us for a Shibari 201 workshop for a refresher.

– Students being tied should have some experience communicating while in rope and processing intense sensations.

– Students should be comfortable giving and receiving feedback.

– We will not be teaching uplines in this class - please review them in advance.

You Should Bring:

– Your full rope kit - enough rope to tie both an upper- and lower-body harness, plus several uplines - and a cutting tool

– Harnesses you are already familiar with (your own or classic patterns)

– A notebook or something to take notes on

– Curiosity and a collaborative attitude
